Look Good, Feel Good and Enjoy the Warmth!

Known for our insane lightweight warmth and stylish vertical baffles, we aimed to level up with our Fall 2020 line of apparel to embody all that we’ve learned living and playing in the mountain town of Steamboat Springs, Colorado for nearly 20 years.

We’re lucky to live so close to the source of our testing grounds, and within that proximity comes the responsibility we’ve embraced to maintain the health of our outdoor spaces, including the sustainability of our products. This year we’re proud to incorporate more sustainable products that truly speak to the Big Agnes brand you know and trust. With the launch of our 2020 line of apparel, you’ll learn why these pieces are so important from the function and fit, to the new technology and materials we’ve sourced.

The Design Process

Designers Sally House and Lauren Nypaver took this new line head on, re-designing and re-imagining everything about what Big Agnes apparel could be. Taking cues from their past experience in sleeping bag and fashion design, they created entirely new designs from function to fit to sustainability.

“The driving force behind the design of this season was that we wanted to make good product, lessen our impact, play outside, and look good while doing it. Working with sustainably sourced, high quality materials is a huge part of that.” – Sally House

For this all new line, we focused on three weights that perform on their own and work solidly together when layered – ultralight, superlight and base camp. From high aerobic winter workouts to snowy conditions through the winter season, these three weights will keep you covered through all of your cold weather activities.

“There’s something comforting about adventuring outside in something you feel good in, especially when it’s freezing cold outside. Each of our unique pieces is crafted to fit immaculately and feel wonderful on. Looking and feeling good is at the heart of this collection.” – Lauren Nypaver

Sustainably Sourced Down Technology

Our new Downtracker apparel tags

Wondering what’s inside? We use DownTek™ Water Repellent Down that stays dry 27 times longer than regular down, because when regular down is exposed to moisture, it loses its ability to insulate. DownTek™ is more than its insulating value though, DownTek™ down is RDS Certified – the Responsible Down Standard certification ensures best practices and humane treatment of animals in which the down was sourced.

DownTek™ is also bluesign® certified, which is a standard in the textile industry to meet the following criteria: made with the highest degree of safety for the consumer, manufactured with the lowest possible impact on people and the environment, and a responsible use of resources. Last but not least, DownTek is PFC free, which means the product is made without the use of per- and poly-fluorinated chemicals which are man-made chemicals that do not occur naturally.

With our new Downtracker QR Code on all apparel tags, you can quickly scan the tag with your phone to find even more information, including the unique origin story, certifications and properties of the down inside your jacket. Pretty cool, if you ask us.

Synthetic Fill Technology

Looking for an alternative to down? Our UL Synthetic Collection is made PrimaLoft Gold® Synthetic Insulation, designed to regulate your comfort level during intense activity while offering performance without compromise, and made from 55% post-consumer recycled content.

The SL Synthetic Collection is made with the following Pinneco synthetic materials as a superior solution in fiber-insulation and eco-engineered alternative to down.

Pinneco Mantle™ – is a high-performance insulation material with a 100% recycled polyester fiber structure that yields a rare combination of loft, compressibility and thermal efficiency.

Pinneco Core® – provides thermal efficiency, featuring a breathable membrane and 50% post-consumer recycled fiber layers that actively draw moisture away while retaining warmth within.

We also use a proprietary FireLine™ ECO Synthetic Insulation in our Base Camp down jacket featuring 100% post-consumer recycled polyester.

Recycled Lining & Shell Fabrics

From the inside out, you wont have to compromise warmth for sustainability. Our lining and shell fabrics are constructed with premium GRS post-consumer and post-industrial recycled materials. GRS is the Global Recycled Standard, an international, voluntary, full product standard that sets requirements for third-party certification of recycled content, chain of custody, social and environmental practices and chemical restrictions.

House and Nypaver worked tirelessly to create these functional pieces that not only look good, but  make you feel good about your choice to support more sustainably produced apparel. We hope you value the improvements we’ve made to the line and enjoy the warmth for many seasons to come. Check back this week for the entire line from Big Agnes, all new apparel for the 2020 season.
